Norton is reputed to be good, however it also has a reputation for slowing computers down + I've noticed in the problem pages of various computer magazines over the years their products seem to get mentioned rather alot whenever there's some sort of software conflict going on.

Personally I recommend ZONEALARM INTERNET SECURITY SUITE which includes Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Zonealarm's famous FIREWALL software, and a whole host of other features to keep you safe online

Other well regarded Anti-Virus programs include:
McAfee

PANDA

AVG

I have been selling (and more importantly studying and testing) internet security products for over 15 years. Buying ANY antivirus program alone is like taking a fly-swather to a wasps nest.

You need 4 main methods of protection.

1. Rookits Detection
2. Spyware Detection
3. Virus Detection
4. IP Address and Keylogging protection.

Rootkits are the MOST stealth method currently for carrying and hiding the very worst of spyware software into your system and burrying it where even the Nortons and Mcafes cant find them.

1. F-Secure offers Blacklight Rootkit detector for FREE on their website, which is the worlds BEST at this single task.
--------

Once you have your rootkit detection software installed you need to buy an "internet security suite" to take care of everything else.

You want free? Try Zone Alarm (free version of firewall), Adaware (free spyware software), Avast (free antivirus software), this is a great free combo.

So far you've spent $0 for a heck of a good suite of software.

If you want to pay for the BEST Suite, I would purchase Zone Alarm Suite.

Zone Alarm Suite is PC Magazine's choice as well as my choice for the very best in internet security for your PC. And its the easiest to use, in my opinion. Just remember to download the free Blacklight software for the best set of security tools available on the PC today.

Norton is huge and inneffective. Mcafee misses too much. And F-Secure is good, but would "under-perform" the free combo, so I cant honestly recommend it.

Either way, BEST OF LUCK!!

Look at cnet.com. They have some great reviews of antivirus programs. I've had Norton Antivirus, and PC-cillian Antivirus. Norton can really slow down a computer system. Please be sure to check the package, and see if your computer specs can handle the software you purchase. I made that mistake, and my computer was slowed down A LOT.

non are best. New virus are made everyday. o have had experiences where one antivirus like norton's would not pick up a virus but another antivirus would. Any aintivirus is 100% better than nothing. You could try AVG free edition. It works fine for me and is free.

Hello,
This one is going to annoy people in so far as most people have a favorite however I do recommend Trend Micro Internet Security / Panda Anti-Virus and Yes Sophos however Sophos is rather Expensive. Trend Micro I personally use and Panda And Norton A/V. Over the years I found Norton juts died at the first sniff of trouble however trend always seamed to last. as for panda well is the newer of what I have been using its priced well at €30.00 OEM and does a great job. Its personal preference in a lot of cases however I do find Norton and Macfee require a lot of horse power from your computer so they can be a hindrance.

I use Norton, but I agree with the person above that none of them are THE answer. I also use a spyware program and visit online virus scan and security scan sites when I'm feeling paranoid.

Norton Anti-Virus, by far. It will detect anything that shouldn't be there and is easy to use.
