My opion is Michaels Jordan's 63 points.... Because it was in the playoffs when defense is played much harder, MJ did it against a dynasty championship team(The Boston Celtics), MJ's 63 is a all-time play-off high, and back in them days the rules was made alot tougher for someone to score. The players back then use to hand check you and sometimes slam you to the floor(exspecially in the playoffs). While Kobe Bryant's 81 was against the Raptors, a team that was rated in the bottom 3 teams for defense, the Raptors was far from being a playoff team, and the game was so unimportant that it wasn't even televised over the world. If you watched it on televison you had to be in L.A. or you either had to have the NBA Package.

My vote goes to Kobe. Did you actually watch that game against the Raptors? True, the Raptors were a weak team, but you have to realize the Lakers were down by as many as 18 points in the 3rd quarter, if memory serves me right. The other Lakers players shot a combined 33%. He did what he had to do to keep his team from losing. Even MJ himself said that Kobe's 81 is a bigger feat than his 63.

If I had my choice of which game I could attend, it would defininely be Michael's 63 point game. For one season, I believe the '86 Celtics were the best team of the 80s (just ahead of the 87 Lakers and the 83 76ers).

Jordan did shred them that day. And Bird did call him "God disguised as Michael Jordan" after the game.

The one thing I'll say about Kobe's game vs. Michael's is that, even though Michael ALSO played against a lot of bad defensive teams, he never lit it up for 81, or even 70.

But since 63 is a playoff record, while 81 is not the regular season record, you'd have to say the 63 was much more significant, even though it occurred in a double overtime loss.

btw, the man whose record Jordan broke, Elgin Baylor, scored 61 (in the finals, against the Celtics) in a game won by the Lakers (game 5, 1962 finals).

Kobe Bryant's 81 point game against the Toronto Raptors on January 22, 2006. That was just unbelievable. The reason I picked this over Wilt Chamberlain's 100 points is plainly because the rules were so much different back then. Plus, I don't even think that defense was very important at all in Wilt's day.

Kobe's 81. If you saw the game, which most of Lakers fan did, most of those points were tough points. It wasn't like the shots he took were all fast break layups or dunks. Even though it was against a bad team, Mo Pete and Jalen Rose who is a good defender actually played him tough. But the boy was just on fire. MJ's performance was also great not b/c of playoffs but b/c it was against a great Celtics team and he was also on fire that night. But MJ played 9+ minutes less than Kobe and scored less.

Come on guys!.... Jordan's 63 was better. I can't believe you guys think the players are better now. The original Dream Team would beat any team you could put together with today's players.... Jordan-Drexler SG's, Magic-Thomas PG's, Bird-Dr J(was fading)-Wilkins SF's, Malone-Barkley-Worthy PF's, and Akeem-Ewing-Robinson-Kareem C's(was fading)(I know this isn't the Dream Team, but those players was playing back in them days). I challenge anyone to even try to make a team to match that with today's players. That was the best ara of all-time. The players was better, had more will, played harder, and wanted to win more. Jordan's 63 all day baby.

Edit: Jordan's performance was so great, it made Larry Bird say "That wasn't Michael Jordan.. That was God in basketball shoes"...lol. Jordan's 63 was better.....and it doesn't matter if Jordan said Kobe's 81 was better. He was just being humble, modest, and letting the young generation have their way...... And people usually are their worst critics. I've heard a pretty girl say that another girl was prettier then her, and the other girl she was talking about was ugly..lol. Since someone says that another person was better then them doesn't makes it true. Jordan's 63 all day!

Kobe, are u kidding. When MJ played the league was in a lul and if he played now, his average would have taken a hit. Think of it this way. Back when Wilt played people brought down like 30 rebounds because people were such bad shooters. And big men could score so many points. But as the league gets older better players develop so Kobe's 81 is more impressive.

I believe that it is up to you to decide.Im not a Kobe Fan but the 81 was very good. Jordan is my type of player. (Chi-town All day).I believe jordans performance is better because he did it on a good team in Boston. But Kobe did it on The weak and the worst team of last season Toronto Raptors.
Jordans 63 is definitly Better Than Kobe's 81

Hey Buddy....Believe it or not, I have to agree with you on that one. That was one of the top ten games I've ever seen. Jordan came very close to singlehandedly beating the best team on the planet.

That game put Jordan on the map as one of the best players in the league. He was virtually unstoppable that day. I think Larry Bird said afterward that it looked like "God disguised as Michael Jordan".

Kobe's game was insignificant. Just somebody trying to make the sports highlight reel. Jordan's game was truly spectacular.

EDIT....Does anybody know what MJ did in the very next game ( game 3 in the best of 5 series. The Bulls down 0-2, and playing in their home stadium) ???

He scored 14 points in the 1st quarter, and then the "unstoppable" Michael Jordan was held to 5 points the next 3 quarters for a grand total of 19 points.

He got hit with a technical in the 4th quarter ( probably out of frustration) , and fouled out with about 4 minutes left.

Just goes to show jd, that all great players have their good days and bad days.

I would have to go with Kobe 81 points

Some teams like the Pistons cant even score 81 in one game.

And MJ Score 63 which is big difference between 81 and 63

Just would go with 81 or 63 ?

No duh 81
