Generally small hands shouldn't be too much of a problem, but if you are worried it will be uncomfortable to play I would recommend a Daisy Rock. These guitars are built especially for girls and have slender necks and lighter bodies, perfect for someone petite. Alternatively, good beginners electric guitars are Fender Squires and Yamaha Pacifcas - a lot of people start off with these guitars. You should go down to your local music store and try out any guitars that you like the look of to get a feel for them. The staff usually give great advice on where to start too.

As someone cursed with small "girly" hands, I can relate to your situation. Here is what I can offer as advice:

Learn to play on an acoustic first. Electric is easier, but you will likely develop bad habits.

Since you are just learning to play, keep your budget reasonable and do not buy an expensive high dollar brand name guitar until you are sure you will stick with it. Find a friend that is an experienced player to go with you to a guitar store and explain to the salesperson that you want a guitar with a narrow neck. The reason for the friend is to keep the salesperson from taking advantage of you and help you hear what the guitar sounds like if the salesperson can't/won't help you. Test out the guitar and see if it "feels" good in your hands. Play whatever songs you may already know or just try fingering the strings as best as you can.

Find a guitar that has a good "feel" to you and a decent sound for what you would like to be able to play (your friend might help here too). Don't worry too much about the brand name at this point!!

Most importantly, have fun and enjoy the whole process of learning about your instrument and how to play it.

Martin guitars are very good, and they have smaller size models; the same is with Taylor guitars. They are rather expensive, though. You will be better off financially witha a Takamine or even a Yamaha - all very good guitars, with Yamaha being the cheapest of the above. Check out different models on the web sites of those companies, and look them up at online stores like musiciansfriend.com or music123.com, as they are cheaper than any "real" stores. Learning on an acoustic is a great approach; later it will be much easier to move to an electric guitar.
Here are some 3/4 size models, Taylor included:

Hey! I'm petite with small hands too! But i'm in 5th grade...anyway, i know a decent guitar! Go to Hume Music and look in the back, where the rock band instruments are. Near the drums, in most Hume Places, there is a section designed especially for guitars! There, you will find guitars all the size! From rock to classical! Your choice! Wish u luck!!!!

I say get an acoustic first, it will help you to build up hand strength. You can find acoustic guitars almost anywhere, and defintely try before you buy. The prices range from $200 to thousands.
I'd go with a Yahama, a good starter.

Check out the Martin Backpacker. It's a small travel type guitar. Pretty reasonable. And it's a Martin. That is the best.
