I feel so small in this cold cold world...like I'll never make a difference, and if I did make a difference, there'd be tons of ******* right there to criticize me and knock me down.

No, we don't. Even if we make a huge difference in the world, the rest of the universe ignores us, and ultimately, the world will end anyway (the universe too, I imagine), and everything is for naught.
So instead of focusing on making a difference, focus on enjoying yourself.

I'm sorry you feel this way, but now and then everyone feels exactly how you do. It's like why even try, why bother. When I feel this way, I do something that I enjoy, and realize that life is a gift and don't worry about other people. Most people are insecure and question their own existence too. Or they may be feeling high on life for the moment and the high is making them arrogant and stupid. Life is all about moments, sometimes you are up sometimes you are down. When you are down learn from the experience and remember the good times and know they will back again. I wish you well.

God would not have created us if he did not have a purpose for our lives. Of course our lives matters.
Regardless to our circumstances we have a choice to live, love and make a difference. Or to hate, be evil doers, vent our anger onto others, and live for eternal death and go to hell.
It all starts with believing that our creator is right beside us.
Remember your thoughts are powerful, we manifest our thoughts into reality.
Have faith, get out the hole you let others dig for you, and be the fabulous, loving person God has made you to be. You turn your life around today. How? By walking away from all the negative things and people in your life, and don't continue to subject yourself in the present of those who criticize and persecute you. They are inflicting there pain onto you because you let them, apparently they need to insult others to feel good and about themselves. They are really hurting deep down inside and they don't know any other way to rid their pain, but that is not your problem especially if their pain is distroying you.
Easier said than done, but you must not take it all personal any more it's not you, don't give in, don't believe nor claim what they say about you to be is true, continue to hold your head up, be strong not weak. You are a winner not a loser. They are the losers. Loser are bullys.
God is the only judge you need to be concerned about. He love you more than any thing in this world, he's your best provider.
God see and hears everything, but you must ask for what you want and believe in your heart that he will not forsake you, tell him what you desires in your heart, he hears his childs cry. I am a living witiness.
Oh! remember this. If you don't respond in a way that conveys to the abuser letting them know they have hurt you, soon they will turn away form you to someone else, because they'll see that their judgments of you aren't effecting you and keeing you down. Surround yourself with loving, healthy happy people so that you can gain strength to withstand all the others. Pray to God he will help you to be wise and strong.
I don't know you, but I just want you to know I love you. And today you have made a difference by expressing the truth about how you feel. Your reaching out for supportive answers to your question is what matters. This is one reason why your life matters, because there are people out there who will encourage you with positive advise to help you live out the purpose of your life without tearing you down.
You know some people have a hard time facing the truth about their lives. And you have let others who feel like you know that they are not alone. You have provided another person hope. That is making a difference.
Now hold your head up! because you need not walk around looking at your feet unless your shoe is untied. (smile)

I can only say that if everyone who feels small left the world we prob. wouldn't have much of a world. We are all part of a collective group. Each one of us is important. Don't worry about people criticizing you. They do it to make their own small selves feel bigger.
