ceiling fan some one told the switch is to change direction so is one way for winter and the other for summer

In the summer ceiling fans should rotate counter clockwise and in the winter clockwise.

It's true...the direction switch.
In the winter I guess you want warm air at the ceiling to be pushed down into hte room, and in the summertime, warm air down below circulated to up top.

Air forced upwards will direct hot air down to make it warmer in winter months.
While air forced downwards will circulate colder air in summer months.

That's true. One direction forces the air upwards (for winter circulation = heat rises), and the other direction forces air downward to cool you (summertime).
