It depends on how tightly you wrap them. The sheathing on any electrical cord has at least a small ability to stretch, which is entirely necessary for them to be able to flex at all. The wires inside don't. Putting a sharp crease in the cord will weaken the wire inside, and stretching it will cause it to break, most especially at any weak points that you've caused by creasing them. The most likely cause of broken earbud wires is from people who leave them plugged into their iPods, fold the wire back down the length of the plug, and then cinch it up tight when they're winding the cord so they don't have to worry about tangles or having the wire unravel from the iPod when it's not in use. So, not only are they weakening the wire right at the end of the plug's strain relief by folding it, but they're pulling on that weak point when wrapping the wire. If you really prefer earbuds and you want to avoid having to worry about this, get some retractable earbuds that you can just unplug and retract into a compact package, or get one of those ergonomic cord winders (Belkin makes a nice set of TuneTies that even include holes sized for the iPod earbuds to plug into for storage).

No. I've had my iPod for about a year and this has never happened to me. Like you, I always wrap the earbuds around the iPod and it's never done anything bad. Hope this helps. Mia Trinity

I've had the same earbuds for over 2 years now and I always wrap them around my Ipod and I've never had them break or anything, they still work like they did when the were brand new. But even if they did break its not that expensive to replace them.

I wrapped mine vertically around my iPod and the actual earbuds broke clean off from what you plug into the earbud hole. I'm not sure if you wrap it horizontally around your iPod but vertically if you wrap them, watch out!!!

Only if you wrap them tightly. Wrap them loosly and make sure the end that plugs into your iPod does not have any strain on them.

It might "break" (sever) them. But there is no way it can "brake" (slow or stop motion) the earbuds.
