Repaint the walls and replace the carpet. If you can't do that, try professional carpet cleaning.
Use a fabric deodorizer like Febreeze on cloth upholstered furniture.

Hi,
Nursing homes use "Ozium Spray" - Neutral scent - Room Deodorizer. It works pretty well on urine. Look at the room where it is the worst... probably the bedroom. Peel back the carpeting in that room and scrub the floor with a vinegar/ lemmon oil/ detergent solution or use Murphys Oil Soap if it is a finished floor underneath. If it is unfinished plywood, try a clear arcrylic sealer roller brushed on the floor boards. (same stuff you seal cement basements with).Think about ditching the carpeting. The walls should be ok... a fresh washing with Tri-Sodium Phosphate. I'll bet the flooring soaked in urine is the main culprit.
Veterinarian offices sell a spray that works on cat urine that would also be beneificial. If it can neutralize cat smell, it can do wonders on old fart smell. :) Get the bedding, mattress, carpeting out of her room and see what happens to the intensity of the smell. Renting a carpet shampooer and doing the whole apartment would do wonders too. Just go room-by-room and do a thorugh cleaning.

I know what you mean my grandma moved to an nursing home, and my mother had the same problem when she lived with her, she did remove the carpet and put in wood floors which was a plus, then I would repaint the walls. If it's warm enough where you live keep the windows open as long as you can every day until you notice the smell is gone, it does take awhile for the smell to leave, at least after you paint the walls you'll have a paint smell instead of a urine smell, hope that helps.

Hi, I'd use Lysol and wipe down as much as you can. Than sprinkle,Arm and Hammer Baking Soda all over the carpets and work in with a stiff push broom.Let that sit a good couple of hours, than vacuum. Last, put some bowls of pure ammonia around the rooms, and keep them there. That should take care of it! Bye

If it smells like urine, there must be dried urine around so the first step is a thorough cleansing with ammonia and bleach to kill the bacteria. Then try burning your favorite scented incense with the windows open to air it out. That ought to do it.

new paint will help cover the smell on the walls and ceilings. or wash them with warm soap and vinegar. if she has carpet they make a carpet cleaner with baking soda.{baking soda does a good job of eliminating odors} if she has tile or wood then i would use Vinegar and warm water. { vinegar helps remove odors} on mattress and curtains you can just place them outside for a day or two and use OUST-spray and they should be good. don't forget the Air conditioner and heater filters. then get some scented candles and let them baby's burn!!!!

Learn to love it. You'll be glad you did. Or start eating a lot of curry. Cooking curry will stink up the house and definately overpower grannys smell.

It is in the carpet and on the walls, hence wash the walls and paint them and get rid of the old carpet if steamcleaning them doesn't work.

A really good cleaning... like EVERYTHING... the walls, EVERYTHING!!!! Then, paint EVERYTHING!... if it's still there; rip out the carpet (that you just cleaned) and replace it... same with the floor coverings... I hope you tossed out everything that was left there... if not, do so... start FRESH!
Good luck!
