Are Animal Farm and To Kill a Mockingbird really confusing/hard to understand novels? Because it seems like every other question in the Books & Authors sections is about one of those two books. Are they bad and nobody wants to read them? Or are they confusing and people just sincerely need help with them?

I don't think they're confusing.
However, they are both books that are often assigned as school books in high school and early college English classes. I imagine many/most of the posts about them are from students who either didn't read, didn't finish, or maybe didn't understand them trying to solicit help on finishing their assignments.

I never read Animal Farm but I read To Kill A Mockingbird twice for school, once in sixth and again in seventh. It was pretty flyinggggg amazing. The theme and message behind was touching and made so much sense. I believe most people don't want to read To Kill A Mockingbird because Harper Lee starts the book off so boring that it nearly kills. But after the first two chapters, I couldn't put the book down. I don't think TKAM is hard to understand because simply put it, it's simple because the main characters are kids younger than the audience who reads it. I know many people who has read and enjoyed it.

To Kill a Mockingbird is not hard to understand or confusing at all. I think it's a great book and an easy read.

Animal Farm isn't by itself difficult to read, but it's a parable about government and as such it's been analyzed to death. It isn't hard to read and if you aren't being asked to produce a 5,000 word essay about it, Comparing and Analyzing and Commenting on it, it's a good read.

Of the two, I'd pick To Kill a Mockingbird to read because it has the power to do what a really good book should do: to transport you into a place and time so thoroughly that you almost feel like you are there. Really a great book.

No, once you read them they are easy to understand. Most of the confused questions come from kids who have them for English and don't want to read them. If they would just pick them up and do the reading they would get so involved with the story they would forget it is required reading and love them. Especially To Kill A Mockingbird. An absolutely great book.

I never found them to be that hard. To Kill a Mockingbird was not really that difficult to read! I zipped through it! It was also pretty straightforward. I think that most of these people are just lazy and don't want to read them, but need to do homework questions or essays or whatnot.

They are easy to read. Most questions on them here are posted because they are home work questions from people who do not have the time to read.

The questions should be posted under:

i read both in school- i dont think its that they are hard to understand, its that they both have underlying meanings throughout the story. (and i think a lot of kids find yahoo answers easier than doing their homework)
