When I was in college I used to pick up two but I knew both of them since childhood. One is now a college professor at Washington State University.

Never again. A few years back, a friend and I were on a roadtrip when we saw 2 decent looking girls trying to catch a ride north. This was summertime in California. They were wearing GAP type clothes with LLBean backpacks. We thought they were safe looking and were worried about their safety, so we stopped. the problem was, that when we stopped we realised that we didn't have enough room in our filthy car for both of them so we told them no (didn't want to split them up). Well, out of nowhere, this guy pops up and says, 'I'm travelling alone!' He was about 20 or so and we didn't know what else to do, so we gave hima ride. He travelled with us for NINE freaking hours. We kept asking where he was headed and he kept say, 'uh...north?' Finally when we get home he was supposed to call a friend, but said it was too late to call, so could he sleep on our couch? My roommate and I locked ourselves in one of the bedrooms and let him sleep on the couch. It took 3 weeks to get rid of the freak. This is no joke.

Not likely. I'm paranoid about hitchikers... it's not the 60's any more, normal people just don't hitchike any more.

probably if they looked half decent, I'd be likely to bore them to death through lack of conversation before they could even think of anything to do to me, i'm weel quite
