Assuming that the laptop has USB 2.0 and your community card is 10/one hundred Base T, the circulate expenses are distinctive yet make no odds on a modem connection. The acquire speeds of the modem, whether on max ADSL, will basically be as extreme by way of fact the document circulate fee on the line. the two USB and Ethernet artwork at circulate expenses bigger than that on the ADSL line (assuming thats what your modem is for), meaning it won't make any distinction. Ethernet is greater straightforward to regulate manually, USB is quickly taken care of via the working gadget.

If you have a network (ethernet) port on your PC use that, it will be faster than USB 1.1.

Using the USB connection means that you are using the network adapter that is built into the adsl modem instead of the one in your pc. If you have no network card/port on your pc (some older laptops dont) then just use the USB connection, you do not need to rush out and buy a network card.

Either one is fine.

The USB is provided for users who do not have an ethernet card or use it for other connections, such as in a "peer-to-peer" network.
