It will be uncomfortable, hopefully they will give you pain killers during the procedure. You will also be advised to take tylenol or something else for several days after as your uterus will be tender.

I had one a week ago, because my fetus died at 7 weeks but my body wasn't getting rid of it on its own (I'm not sure if why you're getting a D&C has any affect on the amount of discomfort). Anyway, they put me under general anesthesia, so I got to sleep all through the procedure - didn't feel a thing! When I woke up I had cramps, but I've had worse with my periods (I'm pretty sure they gave me something for the pain, but I've no idea what). The cramps came and went for about 5 days, I only needed to take 2 Advil once, and even then the pain wasn't that bad. I took it easy for the rest of the day, and the next day too, but I didn't really feel like I needed to.

My doctor did give me a script for Vicodin, but I definitely never needed it. I didn't even bother getting it filled.

The surgery itself does not hurt. The dr will give you plenty of pain killers while you are in the hospital. Once you leave they will send you home a prescription for a very strong pain killer. The shrinking of the uterous will be somewhat painful for the first few days but after that you recover quite quickly.

It really is a simple procedure. Be prepared to be off work for several days even though they release you to return to work in 24 hours. It is more emotionally draining than physically, especially if it was a planned pregancy.

Well, the short answer is YES! It is an invasive procedure but in these days they may have procedures to minimize the pain.
It also depends on how bad your uterine conditions is. In any case it is better than the long term discomfort, pain you will go thru without it.
