4. Everyone (accept, except) John agrees with the decision.
5.Valerie goes to the movies more often (than, then) I do.
6.(Due to the fact that, Since) our plane was delayed, we were late.

1. This story is quite different from your last one.
Sometimes the British say "different to" but the grammar police say that "different from" is correct in American English

2. We will discuss this issue further at another time.
Further is abstract. Farther is for distance.

3. Alan is the candidate whom I supported for class president.
As you can see, neither answer is actually correct. You need the accusative case here because the phrase is "I supported (whom)." However, since being correct in this situation sounds a little pretentious, I'd go with "who".

4. Everyone except John agrees with the decision.
John is the exception.

5.Valerie goes to the movies more often than I do.
"Than" is used for comparisons.

6. Since our plane was delayed, we were late.
"Due to the fact that" is not technically wrong in this instance, even though "due to" is often used incorrectly. However, "due to the fact that" is wordy, and skirts on the edge of a well-known error, whereas "since" is straightforward, simple, and correct.

7.Divide these souvenirs among the three children.
"Between" is used for two, "among" for three or more.

8. What effect does diet have on a person's health?
"Effect" is a noun, "affect" is either a verb or an emotion. These two words, and words with these words as roots, have perhaps the trickiest relationship of all word pairs. I wrote a page of explanation of these two words for a class I used to teach in proofreading. Read it for "Martha's short road to success with affect and effect."

OMG, i'm concurrently cracking up guffawing and nodding my head maniacally as I study the solutions to this question. the only....actually the only that purely GRATES on my nerves (and that i do no longer comprehend whether it is purely geographically limited to Texas the place I stay) is whilst human beings think of that "license" is a plural noun.... I.E.: "i've got lost my motive force's license. Has every person seen them?" I purely opt to tear off hands as quickly as I hear that one. additionally I had no concept there became somebody else available who reported "flustrated." I used to renowned an HR supervisor at a business enterprise for which I worked that reported it for all time; i presumed she made it up! Hilarious!
