I find it hard to believe.
Do you really think that she could have lost it, and people only assumed she was a virgin because she never married?
I was just wondering.

It's possible she was a virgin. Being a virgin isn't an impossible thing to be. Although, it's hard.

Think about it, she wasn't barraged with the many sexual images that we have in our society at this time. Alot of the stuff you see on tv, read, and hear can help stimulate your sexual desires (I know personally). Those things weren't around then. Also, during her lifetime, premarital sex was looked upon much more negatively than they are today.

Basically you have to consider the time she was alive and that certainly would've made it more likely possible she was a virgin (doesn't mean she was for certain).

i just did a report on her in English im still unsure u decide

'There is overwhelming evidence to support the fact that Queen Elizabeth was not a virgin. It is highly probable that she was raped as a teenager by the brother of Lord Somerset, and it is also suspected that she had many sexual encounters with her 'boyfriend', ROobert Dudley, otherwise known as 'The Queen's Favorite'."

but also...
She was probably a virgin. It's difficult to imagine any secret affair remaining secret for long. And birth control was tricky and untrustworthy in the 16th century. She knew that any affair would risk a pregnancy - and that would destroy her life. Furthermore, it is worth noting Elizabeth's own strict and methodical character, and the disdain she showed for women who could not control their feelings or appreciate the consequences of their actions. Consider her opinions of her two cousins, Mary, queen of Scots and Catherine Grey. Both rushed into hasty, inappropriate and passionate unions and both had disastrous results. Elizabeth looked down upon them both, remarking that they would do well to remember their high positions in life and its attendant responsibilities.
She lamented her lost opportunities for love and a family of her own. But she was queen and it was an exalted and lonely position.
No, she never had children. It's fun to read theories that she was the mother of Bacon - or Shakespeare - or was even Shakespeare himself.... but could she really keep a pregnancy secret? Foreign ambassadors paid her servants to learn every intimate detail of her life. Upon hearing some gossip about her relationship with Dudley, Elizabeth observed that a thousand eyes were always upon her so how could she do anything scandalous?

Does it really matter? The film about her suggest she wasn't. Don't believe all you see in films. Producers just want to add some drama. The fact that she was a very religious person and never married speaks for it. But no-one who is now alive can know for sure.

My History teacher was adamant that the woman was and so the woman was, in the eyes of history she was a virgin as she never married, in practical terms she probably was, sexually transmitted diseases must have existed, and regardless of how many suitors she could have had, they were all below her position in the kingdom, relations with xzy would have meant some subordination to their points of view and this would not have been in keeping with her hold on power.

Hi Elf,
I suppose no-one is supposed to know, but I guess that seeing that she had many "courtiers" It is likely that she had a sh*g or three. Bless her.
As for not marrying, well neither did I, and we have two splendid sons. No problem.
If Elizabeth Mk I was to be of child, I suspect that would of been kept quiet as well.
We must speak to the dead to find out the truth !
Bob.

No she undoubtedly had sexual experiences in her youth - with Lord Seymour and Robert Dudley among others.

She was only known as "The Virgin Queen" because she never married.

It's all speculation but I think it is highly likely that her long term relationship with Lord Dudley was not platonic Dhr msy well have had an affair with the Earl of Essex too.

I believe she had lovers but in political terms it was best to refer to her as the " Virgin Queen " because she did not marry and produce heirs.
