Can't help ya but just be carefull of all of the scum that are out there. next thing you will be told that by doing some "Favours", you can get this audition and next thing you know, you are living on the street begging for a fix.

I suspect you're wrong about there being "no acting auditions or anything" where you live. I've moved around a lot and lived in many different states and have yet to land anywhere (big or small) that did not have community theatre... which is the best place to get experience.

Also almost every college and university has a theatre program... most of them have open auditions for college productions. Many also have summer programs in performing arts, including acting.

You live in Fairfax, which is close to D.C. I'm sure you could find plenty of acting opportunities as well as classes and workshops if you did a little homework. Read the "lifestyle" and "arts" sections of your paper... look on the Internet, call a local college.

If you really want it, you'll need to put some effort into it. :-)

I don't know how old you are, but if you are serious about acting, then I would say to get involved in your school, and look for a college that specializes in the theater arts. Getting a degree in theater will help you a lot.

If you are looking for more like movie stuff, there is Carlyn Davis Casting (assuming you are talking about Fairfax, VA). She runs a VA based casting company that employs people as extras. If you don't like going to "cattle calls" or open auditions, they have an internet database that you can join for a year for $50. The website for the database is www.extrasnow.com

This way, they have all of your information on file and they can search the database for criteria and you don't have to drive to every open audition. They run jobs in D.C., MD, Richmond, and Eastern Shore of VA. They also post legit casting calls for other places on the database website. A perk of being a member.

I grew up in Fairfax actually and had quite the acting bug! Not sure what is still around now- but I did lots of community theatre- Harlequin Dinner Theatre in Rockville, the Burn Brae in Columbia, Followspot Players right in Fairfax (they were sponsored by Fairfax County and it was widely popular- can't imagine it's no longer there- call city hall)- Port City Players in Alexandria......there used to be LOTS of local theatres in the area- my parents ran me around like crazy!! Most of the high schools have GREAT drama programs- I am a graduate of Robinson- I did mostly community theatre but Robinson had a great program- same with Lake Braddock and Woodson.
I went on to dance at Walt Disney World for several years with all of my experience. OK- that's the furthest I got before injury but I really enjoyed it
When you accept your first Oscar- I expect you to thank "Golfczech"

If you're looking for a place really close that might have someone, then I would try D.C. However, I wouldn't suggest it because... It might not have anyone. My suggestion is try out for a Broadway play in NY. You might get noticed and get an acting career.
Also, I like the sound of your determination, but if you aren't super good at acting than the chances of being able to 'become' good aren't super big. If that were possible, than everyone in the world would be Hollywood material! There aren't really many acting teachers in the world so sign up for a play and maybe you will 'become' good after all.
Basically, if you never give up than, hey, you never know!

Start trying out for plays in your home town. build up you resume and when you have done that check the news papers or you can check with your state film commission and get auditions that way then you may even find a agent who can help you with auditions.

Try New York, that's the closest you'll probably find. Or you could try auditioning for that American Idol show if you can take the criticism.
