What requirements are there for something to be considered a sport? I personally do not think golf is a sport where endurance, strength, agility are in much play. Skill is a huge factor but I just can't compare golf to football, soccer, boxing, hockey etc.

Apparently, your definition of a sport is a competition that involves contact. I notice that you have omitted baseball from you list. Do you not consider baseball a sport?

Golf is actually both a sport and a "past time". You can compete against others in golf or you can use it as a relaxing time out in the country.

If you don't think golf or bowling is a sport, why don't you go down to the local club or center and challenge a golfer of bowler to a game and put up $1000. Then come back and tell us how you do.

Golf is absolutley a sport....ask Michael Jordan. Jordan used to claim it was one of his favorites. If you actually play the course like you are suppossed to, not just ride around in a cart, it does take endurance. You are walking a few miles with your clubs on your back. Professionals swing with great power. It is a workout believe it or not. Many people don't think it is a sport because they can't play it.

Golf also requires touch much like a good shooter in basketball

Is baseball a sport? You spend most of the time during a game either standing or sitting in a baseball game.

Are you one of these people that think NASCAR is a sport or poker?

I'm thinking no one here has ever played golf!! Maybe try it before you judge whether it's a sport.

it's a way to pass the time. to be a sport there would be competition, and the only competition is the golfer vs the course.

It's in the category of darts or poker in my book. If you don't break a serious sweat...it's not a sport. I'd call it a past time.
