Memnoch the Devil, by Anne Rice. She built up a very powerful, convincing story, then at the end wimped out and abandoned the premise in a way that made the entire book nonsensical. I think she scared herself, thinking she might be right! :)

The story is that of one of her vampire characters being tempted by the devil, and getting to hear his side of the story. It intertwined with current difficulties the vampire was having and included a visit to hell, and some time travel, but was very convincing. Then in the last couple of pages she tacked on what amounts to a Dallas dream sequence cop-out, with the devil saying, fooled you, it was all a lie.

Personally I always thought that The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn had a crumby ending. Don't get me wrong... I loved the book up until the part where Tom Sawyer came along and had to make everything more difficult! I mean why on Earth did they have to dig a hole to get Jim out of his little cabin? They were walking right in the front door to tell him what they were doing!! Great book, ruined by the stupid addition of Tom! What was Twain thinking??

I think the Da Vinci code. It was both good and bad. It was good because I thought something was going to happen, then nothing did. I remember slamming the book and screaming out loud, "I'm gonna kill Dan Brown!"

My husband just looked at me all puzzled then I told him I'd been reading that sucker for more than a day and a half without ceasing. I stopped only to shower, pee and eat - hardly no sleep, then he punk'd me at the very end. The worst ending but I was loving it until he punk'd me.

I think that Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events, The End, had an absolute horrible ending. I mean he dragged the series through 13 books, and it ended, horribly. It was like he was in the middle of the first book and had just decided to end it, after he was bored with it all or something.

In my opinion I think "A Painted House" by John Grisham ended poorly. It just ended and you were left with questions about the outcome of certain characters.

Of the ones I have recently read, Cell, by Stephen King had a really crappy ending. I expected more from one of my favorite authors. It was almost like he got tired of writing it and just came up with something so he would be done with it.
