these people are both wrong and stupid.

until last year, porsche and VAG (volkswagen audi group) had no relation, outside of family based ties (goofy family tree stuff). Business wise, they had ntohing in common, outside of doing 2 joint projects together, the 914 (used VW engine) and the cayenne (shares platform with the toureg).

last year (maybe longer ago now?) porsche bought 29% of VAG to prevent any possibility of a hostile takeover. porsche may increase that stake soon also.

Actually, VW and Porsche are partners. Porsche is trying to buy VW to protect it from being bought out by other companies. Porsche owns 27% of VW. Fernando Porsche created the 1st VW, the beetle. Then he made his own company and named it after his last name, Porsche. Thats why those companies are partners and thats why they share there technology and parts.

I read somewhere recently that Pieche Porsche had the oppurtunity to purchase more than 50% stake in VW but did not but I believe they own a high percentage still yet.

Up until 1998 Bentley was owned by Rolls Royce and they shared platforms and engines and such. In 1998 Volkswagen bought Bentley and in 2002 BMW bought Rolls Royce and they went their separate ways.
