Hey there. Im a university history major..in canada.... maybe i can help you out.
Your thesis can be something along the lines of. "WWI had a significant impact of the roles of women in Canada socially and politically"
First of all, before the war broke out in various countries..the U.S , Britain and Canada the women's movement and their fight to gain equal rights was gaining importance.
Many argue that WWI allowed for women;s suffrage to occur, and at the turn of the war, women were granted the right to vote, which might not have occurred till some time later if it wasnt for the war.
Secondly, the war significantly changed the concept of gender roles for men and women. Women were partaking in the men;s jobs on the homefront...because the majority of men were off to war. So women had to fill the postion of the man, by working and also the mother, taking care of the family.
The women worked in the factories to allow for products o be used in the war. for example. ammunitions factories and agriculture, to feed the troops.
This is just a few examples, i hope this helps. good luck.

Think about these issues. Independence of woman to work and to control their own incomes and what happened when the men returned and resumed their employment. Large numbers of widows receiving pensions for the Government. Many who grew up without a father or who never married because of the loss of a loved one. Those who never married because of the extensive loss of marriageable men in their area. These should give you some definite areas to structure your paper. Good luck.
