Unless the newly signed Sammy Sosa gives Gagne some Roid-Action, he is not gonna play most of the year.... I'd be starting Otsuka, he has nasty stuff as did great last year after the closer was traded to Milwaukee. Is this Otsuka's call or just another bonehead move by Rangers managers?

It's a boneheaded move no doubt about it.We have no idea how he'll pitch in the regular season. It doesn't matter how well he does in spring training. He has to be tested in games that mean something like the rugalr season games not spring training games.Maybe they made Eric Gagne the closer because it was the only way he would agree to staying with the team.I had Otsuka on my fantasy baseball team and he was in the top 5 best closer's.

That is the good question. The answer is that the Rangers are paying $6 million for one year. Due to the fact that he said yes to the contract, he starts. $6 million players aren't backups. Not unless they are injured or playing horrible. Otsuka did great last year. Gagne has had a great past, and if healthy, can be productive again. I am sceptical but will give the guy a chance.

If ur talkin eric gagne.

then u've answered your own question.

whether he plays the whole year or not, its an automatic game over in a win for the rangers as soon as he takes the field.

besides, if this Otsuka is as good as you say, then the rangers are in a really good loser position seeing as how when gagne goes down they'll just put in the backup whats-his-face guy thats also good. so don't sweat it.

Gagne is coming off his SECOND Tommy John surgery. NO one has successfully done that. The Dodgers knew about that one, as the only person who had tried was the Dodger's Darren Dreifort, so they had no problems letting Gagne go.

No not crazy, just stupid. Look at Gagne and Sosa. Horrible pick ups, just like everyone else they have ever picked up. Their GM is a moron. However, hiring Ron Washington may have been the smartest thing they ever did.

Gagne is the nastiest closer alive when healthy. So obviously you have to put him as number one until he shows otherwise.
