It seems like so many that don't smoke think they are God's form of "better" creation in some way.

I understand smoking isn't one of the best things to do in this world.

It also isn't good to eat cr_p all day and sit at the computer. No one ever gets on these people. Some of us enjoy to smoke and if you don't like it go to a restaraunt that doesn't allow it.
But no, you don't do that. You think you should go anywhere you want to and not have smoke around you.
Us smokers don't think we should be able to smoke anywhere. But you "hypacritic" people think you just something else because you don't smoke. Think the lord I don't live in some of those f--ggy states out east that don't allow smoking at all.

If you don't like smoke. Don't go to bars that allow smoking. But don't try to take away the freedoms away from Americans you liberals!

The more they try to ban something, the more it makes people want to do it.

Especially if it doesn't deal with moral issues. If they were doing this ten years ago when I was a teen I would even have wanted to light up more!

In an allegedly "free" country, a restaurant owner should be able to determine whether or not to allow smoking in his or her establishment. The free market would determine whether he or she made more money with or without the ban. In all likelihood, some restaurants would be non-smoking and others would have sections.

But NO! The government must control EVERYTHING!!

I don't even smoke, and I can see that this is silly.

I think the business owners should decide the rules for their own establishments and free market would dictate. In other words, if people do not want to be around smoke, they will not go to places that allow it and vice versa. If businesses lose a lot of money because of allowing smoking, then maybe they would change their policy. However, there is a chance that business would increase because of the scarcity of places that allow smoking and then places that do not allow it might change THEIR policy. Bottom line, the government should not decide this issue. It should be decided by the private business owners and people can choose whether or not to patronize a business that allows/doesn't allow smoking.
It is similar, I think, to the legislation I heard about in New York banning trans-fats. On the surface it seems a good thing. But again, I think it should be for the businesses to decide, not the government.
As far as the taxpayer footing the bill for smoking ailments, a lot of smokers have their own health insurance. Maybe a better focus for government micro-scrutiny would be drug testing for welfare recipients. Really. Cigarettes are not the only vice our taxes are paying for. Drugs and booze and viagra. I resent paying for those things too.

While I definitely agree with you...........I especially feel strongly about the government telling people who own a business whether or not they can allow smoking is a communistic act......I also think you may want to rethink the hold nicotine has on you. I just quit smoking 4 days ago, mostly because I was so angry that something was controlling my life. Check out the book "The easy way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr.

well... you didnt exactly ask a question, so i will respond to every thing you said....

1. i quit smoking, but i dont think any different of those who do- i just think different of those who do while pregnant because my baby was enough for me to stop- i didnt like the idea of depriving him of oxygen about 10-15 times a day, for 5 mintues everytime.

2. some places should allow smoking- because it is your right to smoke, BUT some places should not- because it's other peoples right not to smoke.

3. it doesnt matter if it is smoking or something else, there is always going to be some "do-gooder" trying to tell you how to run your own life.

I have every right to fresh air. I don't care if you smoke, but don't use MY tax dollars for your medical treatment when you develop a smoking-related illness, and I don't want to smell your smoke when I go to a public place. Your disgusting habit isn't something we all want to suffer for.

I agree- I don't smoke, but I don't care if other folks do or not.

Smokers are safer to be around than drunks, especially on the road.
