We cannot really answer that for you.
But what I can tell you is that connecting to the internet has absolutely nothing to do with wether or not you have antivirus.

What we don't know is if you all ready had antivirus software installed to begin with.
Most prebuilt machines (i.e. Dell, compaq, HP) do ship with some type of anti-virus software.
Some service providers (i.e. AT&T) offer a free version of antivirus software - but you either have to install it from their cd or download it.

To rephrase - you very well may have AV software - but it didn't get there when you connected to the internet.

well i suggest you go to "start -> programs" and find out if any antivirus is installed on your comp. if yes UPDATE it immediately.
if not installed you may download a free antivirus like AVG or avast or even go for the paid packages.
whatever you do..do it fast before your PC gets infected with xviruses and you hav 2 call a technician...and dont 4get 2 update ur antivirus everyday/every time yopu log on to da internet...and perforn virus scans every 2 days.
all this may seem 2 b too much truoble but trust me if u dont do dis u risk getting into far greater troubles...

Unless your computer came with the antivirus protection installed, you have to install it yourself.

You will want to get an internet suite that include antivirus and a firewall.

Most providers as well as search engines (yahoo, etc.) provide some level of protection as well as scan and removal tools, but these are minimal protection and you are going to want to install your own soon.

To get you started, click on this link and download AVG 7.5. It's free and a pretty good ''scan and remove tool'':

O.K. Next your going to want something to limit whats coming in, or a firewall. Try this, it's also free!:

A lot of people pay for Norton, I do as well. It's probably the best, but man is it ssllloooowwwww! So do a lot of chatting and see what you may want to purchase, but in the meantime what I've shown you should do. Good luck and happy surfing!

Your computer may have been installed with a firewall and anti-virus. You do have to turn them on. Click Start>all programs. Now look for something like Norton. Double click on it. You will be able to figure it out from there. I talk about securing that new computer in my blog at

You have to install it and you have to update it on a regular basis. AVG-free and spybot are both free and easy to update.
