An associate of mine was in town for business, and asked if she could leave her cat at my place for one day. She explained that it was too cold to leave the cat in the car while she ran errands, and didn't want to spend money on a hotel room for 24 hours.
Supposedly her brother's flight was delayed, and he wouldn't be home until the following day, at which time she would stay with him.
Her cat is older, and has been in the her family for years. Although I love animals, and wanted to watch the cat, I was uncomfortable doing so because of the cats age, and also, if something happened to her pet while in my care, I could be blamed.
I'm sure most people would have let the cat stay for one day, and not think it was a big deal. But I view family pets similar to children, and I'm uncomfortable watching either unless I'm close to the owners or parents, and familiar with the pet or child. Was I wrong for not watching her pet? What would you have done?

Also, it bothers me when people leave their children and pets with people they hardly know, because you don't know how that person will treat them. We're associates, but have never spent social time together, or visited each other casually.
