That's a very subjective question you ask, considering there are multiple "eras" of classical music. Here are a few to get you started, from earliest to modern:

Johann Sebastian Bach - Famous for Toccatta in Fugue in D Minor and other organ or harpsichord compositions
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - Famous for numerous operas as well as his final piece Requiem
Ludwig van Beethoven - Famous for his symphonies as well as piano sonatas
Franz Schubert - Also famous for his symphonies
Franz Liszt - Credited with making piano music widely innovative and popular
Gioacchino Rossini - Famous for his operatic compositions along with his compatriot Giuseppe Verdi
Igor Stravinsky - Famous for his Rite of Spring, that brought classical music into the modern era
Maurice Ravel - Known for his piano works but especially his composition Bolero
Philip Glass - His music, described as minimalist, has been widely used in movies and studied extensively. He has been an influence on dozens of up-and-rising musicians.

Oh my very favorite is Saturday Night Waltz. You'll recognize it as the theme from the Beef, It's What's For Dinner commercials.
