Soak it in dishwater overnight, then put in the dryer.

Just kidding, you can have it done at Best Buy for $20 bucks.

It is not a good idea to try to clean it yourself, you can mess up the eye's calibration, and/or easily disconnect the flex board that connects to the switch. Both of which will make the PS2 useless. It probably does just need to be cleaned, especially if it's regular home is on a carpet or in a dusty area. Take it to a used game store that does repair. A cleaning shouldn't run you anymore than $25 dollars. If they say it does, go somewhere else. Plus, if you do mess it up yourself, you'll be out the cost of a can of air, a screw driver set with small enough heads to take apart all of the things you need to clean, AND how much it will cost to repair the eye or flex board (if it's even possible) which will run you about 50 to 60 more dollars.... or just a new PS2.

Assuming your skipping problem is because of a dirty laser lens, the easiest way to do it is probably to purchase a laser lens cleaner. They are also marketed as DVD and CD player cleaners. They are basically a CD with some soft bristles that clean the lens when you pass a certain track. They aren't too expensive either.

Buy a cleaning disk from a store like GameStop or EB Games and next time please put a question like this in the appropriate category. Maybe Electronics instead of General Health Care.
