I'd be fine with one whose policies I supported. In other words, not Hillary or Obama.

As much as many of us would want to see the 'best candidate' win, too many Americans still believe in the boundaries of race and gender. I think a man with a decent stance still has the best chance of getting elected, moreover a white man.
Personally, I would want to hear Obama make a more direct and vocal stance on his policies and Hillary to do the same. I hope these two dont piggyback on the media coverage they are getting as that would set up an immediate defeat.

I agree with you that it should be the best PERSON for the job. I would like for it to be that way.
Unfortunately, I do not think the majority of voters here are ready for a woman, in spite of what the media is trying to make everyone believe. I don't think the average voter is going to buy it no matter how many times they hear it on the news. I think a man still stands a better chance of getting elected, regardless of race. And, it looks like a white male stands the best chance of getting elected, regardless of policy. That is my assessment of where we are today.
Maybe someday it will be a level playing field. I hope so.

Being from middle america, I feel that it should be, but numbers are numbers and some people will never vote for anyone but a while male. We do have a rising number of minorities and some day i believe we will see someone that's not a white male and I personally hope, even though I am white male, that it happens in my lifetime. Race does not matter to me.

I cannot speak for the whole nation but I certainly am. Gender and race should have nothing to do with one's qualifications to be President of the United States. Just think of it...President Hillary Clinton and Vice President Barak Obama. They can't be any worse than Bush and Cheney.

I would be willing to vote for either a woman or a black candidate, but I don't think I would vote for either Hillary or Obama. I'm waiting for a better candidate to come along.

Democracy says anyone can be elected, it just has happened to be white males. We will one day have an african american president and a woman president. It should be condelezza rice.

Should you have one... well, that depends on the person. Best man or girl for the job and all that...
Are you socially ready. No.. do you really see him/her being elected?

what does it matter whether they are white, or black or male or female? they are just people and we shouldn't even pay attention to what they look like.
