I have an extra operating system on my computer and I want to delete it because my computer will try to start with the one that doesn't work rather than the one that will work. I can still start the computer.

assuming xp, edit the boot.ini file in the root directory,

you have a line like
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINXP

change it to the other one....

(you'll see when you get there)
its in the root directory,
then it won't boot the other one anymore..
then you can simply erase the directories for more space.

1) If u hav multiple OS in different partitions
delete the folder containing windows files (usually WINDOWS) ,program files folder and documents and settings folder of ur unwanted windows. Now do 3.

2)If u hav multiple OS in same partition.
delete the folder containig windows files and delete the users from the documents and settings folder(check the name of the folder (ur recently installed windows users will hav a number or dot(.) with the folder name )or check the contents of its desktop and mydocuments to determine the user).

3) Now right click Mycomputer-->properties-->Advanced Tab-->Startup and recovery, click settings--> click edit.

a notepad opens.

Now determine the os u deleted

rdisk(0) - disk no:1.
rdisk(1) - disk no:2....etc.

patition(1) - C: drive
partition(2) - D: drive....etc.

determine the drive in which the windows was installed

delete the corresponding entry(line).

in the default= line , change the disk no: and partition no: to the undeleted windows partition and disk no:. save& close the notepad.
Reboot the system..... Ur unwanted windows is gone....
This looks very lengthy but it is very simple...

format ur complicated disk and set up the os. U may also attempt to undo the recent installlation through computer fix to an formerly date. Reinstall the recent os again, taking care to go back to a call on to apply replace selection (over write).

put in the windows cd as if you were going to reinstall it. you should come to a menu that will allow you to delete a partition. delete the one that has the os you don't want. good luck!

you could download a boot disc iso and boot that up to remove the partition that the OS is on. it will get rid of the OS you dont want and give you the space for the one you want.
