I'm looking at an add in the paper advertising a 1996 Suburu Outback. It says "new motor". What does that mean? Is it synonomous with "engine" or what? The owner says she doesn't know. She says her son, a mechanic, did it.

I just talked to her son. He says he got the engine from a junkyard, and says it has 100,000 miles on it (considerably less than the car itself). Upon install, he replaced the timing belt as well as the water pump (new parts). He says it was professionally installed by his dealership shop. No reciepts.

The ad in the paper probably should've read, "rebuilt or reconditioned ENGINE".
ENGINE= steam engine, gasoline engine, diesel engine etc.
MOTOR= power window motor, electric motor for used for industrial purposes, etc.

it can mean a few things. number one, the best case scenario, is that a real mechanic installed a subaru factory replacement engine,"motor" and that the car has less miles on the engine than on the odometer. option 2, a rebuilding garage took the old engine out, replaced the bad parts, and re installed it. being rebuilt does not mean a "new motor" but some sellers will misrepresent a rebuilt as such.

option 3, the worst, is that her son is a lube boy at speedy oil change, and has seen a guy work on a motor before, and thought hed try his luck on moms car. he bumbled down to autozone and picked up a crank bearing kit, and installed it from the bottom without pulling the motor, or remachining the crankshaft. it runs now, but the new bearings are only masking the problem that still exhists with the journals on the crank. in a few months you will hear the same rumbling, and loss of oil pressure that mom did, and you will have to get a "new motor" for yourself.

an engine is powered by fuel. a motor is powered by electricity.
some people dont know the difference, so they use them incorrectly. but in this case, they are talking about the engine. which by the way, if it was maintained correctly, should not be bad after 11years in a subaru. they are very long lived engines, and great cars. i would be curious about the maintenance on the rest of the car.

It means that the motor was replaced. But ask, some people will call a ring job a new motor when a new motor really means they replaced the old motor with a factory built motor. Also if you are interested, find out where they got the motor. Motors bought from discount auto parts stores are typically junk. Good luck.

a motor uses electricity to produce torque and an engine uses gas/diesel/propane/etc. but a lot of people selling
cars or trucks dont know the difference and will state new
motor when in fact it is a new engine

What a wonderful question. Religion is, of course, the form that one's worship takes. Thus there are thousands of forms. Religion includes a system of religious beliefs and practices. The object of the religion may be false gods or the true God. Hence, there is false religion and there is true. Religion can get very fancy or remain simple. In the former case, such as it is today. In the latter case, such as it was in the Garden of Eden. What then is worship to me? How do I worship? To worship means to obey. And to obey means to worship. The two are intimately connected; indeed, they are coterminous and cannot be separated. Specifically, to obey the Sovereign Lord God Jehovah of Armies is to worship Him. I do my imperfect best in this regard. I fall on my face and get back up to try and try again. In the Garden of Eden, so long as they obeyed Jehovah, Adam and Eve were worshiping him. No temple, no Mosaic Law, no meetings. Simply leave the tree of the knowledge of good and bad alone. Simple. The minute they disobeyed, they stopped worshiping Jehovah. Same with the nation of Israel. The minute they attempted to practice a syncretistic religion they stopped worshiping Jehovah. The minute they made the golden calf, they stopped. And on and on. To worship is to obey. To obey is to worship. Hannah J Paul

i always love the word motor when referring to automobile engines, even though the terms overlap, I was always taught that motors convert energy to motion, whereas an engine creates motion from energy bearing substances I:E: steam, gasoline, kerosene etc.

i would take that as meaning
a engine overhaul
ie:valveas pistons
re-bored or refitted
not a completely
new engine put in
the advert would specify
it as new engine fitted
for numerical value
when sold.
