YES BUT ONLY LEGAL AMERICANS

The general public can't decide the proper time to wipe its collective a** much less decide what is good for an entire country. People on an individual basis are extremely smart, but in large groups they become deranged lunatics. In addition, knowing all the facts would be required for such a vote to be successful. Nobody here knows all the facts because the people with the information have their own agendas and spin the info accordingly.

Congress will NOT be deciding the Iraq situation. No matter what legislation they pass, congress can not go around the President's power to control our forces in a military operation (as it is classified, not an actual war).

EVERYBODY is talking but no-one has come up with a reasonable solution. Lots of riding the fence on this one. We don't have many brave representatives that have the courage to buck the polls so we don't know what they really think. Oh well, neither do I.

If we win they will keep harping and critizing. If we lose they will gloat and become more high and mighty.

Either way, there is a chapter to follow this one. They spend more time trying to bring WalMart down than working on the things important to the general public.

When one's mind is occupied in criticizing others there is no room for them to seriously contemplate solutions.

Go for it. It will actually help his plan more than it will hurt it. Do you really think the President was shocked when a majority of this counrty disapproved of his plan? Of course he wasn't, because it's part of the plan. You see, the disapproval from congress is actually opening the Iraqi Govt's eyes and making them fullfill their promises because they know that our support is not open ended. Because the Iraqi govt is stepping up to the challenge, it allows our troops to go in and do what they are trained to do. It didn't even dawn on me till Hillary said the Democrats deserve credit for the Iraqi Govt. arresting over 600 Shiite militants last week.(State of the Union Address) That's when I realized that Congress is blindly supporting this surge. Bush is taking advantage of the opposal. That's called thinking like a politician. If you ask me, that's pretty damn smart.

Absolutely not. Citizens in this country have elected members of congress to govern. We do not need a special election to decide every issue. The people of this nation have constantly proven to be far too susceptible to the emotions of the moment and the vagaries of campaign tactics to put an issue like this into an election type process.

i think that would be a good idea... the only thing is most people would vote to bring the troops home NOW.... but thats not the best choice either because to the entire world it would make america look weak- and may open the doors for attacks.

By the way- thats a good question.

No-- first, the cost would be huge for just this single issue.

2nd, we elected Bush + congress to deal with that stuff. They need to do their jobs. Write your congressman, senator and the whitehouse to express your opinion.

Bush is going to do whatever he wants anyway. He's already sent the first wave of soldiers in the "surge". Congress cannot stop him short of removing funding.

Absolutely!!! Better yet, let the U.S. soldiers that are there determine their of fate!! They are the ones in harms way. The press can report anything that they, or the President want them to, but having been there myself, why should those that have no experience or knowledge of the area and the consequences of staying LONGER pass judgement on those that actually have to stay there??

thats a really great ideal but not truly pheasable for real life. We dont know everything that goes on and Im certainly not trained in military combat. If you want a voice in the issue write to your congressman.

The President is the Commander in Chief, not Congress and not you and me. If you don't like Bush then vote for someone else in 2008.
