My husband is in the Marine Corps and is up for Recruiting. He can put in a request of where to go, but we can't figure it out. We are both from CA and this is where he's been stationed for the last 5 years. I must say what are important factors to me, my husband is black, and I am white. I do not want to move to a state that we would get a lot of problems from this. We have a 6 & 3 year old, so I want to go somewhere with good educational systems. I hate bad weather i.e; hurricanes, tornados, snow, etc. I may be able to deal with some snow and what not, but not huge snow storms where we can't leave our home. I just basically want peoples honest opinions of the states they do or have lived in. I want to know how diverse they are, crime rates, all that! Thank you so much for your opinions.

Thanks for all the answers so far, very helpful. I wanted to add that we do not need to be where a base is, he will be doing Recruiting which means any state in the U.S. He will be doing things like going to high schools, colleges, etc. to talk to people about joining.

Altough the Northwest has had a lot of nasty weather this year, I still think that is the best place to live. The Northwest is the most tolerant place I have seen in the US

I live in Michigan, so this isn't a good state, although there is a Marine base in MT. Pleasant. The black and white thing shouldn't matter where ever you go. I love Florida, but I am an Army guy, so I'm not sure if there is a Marine base there. You hate tornadoes, snow, and hurricanes. I googled this and the perfect place for you is Hawaii. Good luck!

Illinois is nice. It is racially diverse. It has full seasons. Hot in summer and some snow in winter but nothing extreme. It has a good health care system and good education system. Of Course north up by Chicago is colder weather because of the great lakes.

North Carolina is nice, but you'll have to deal with the ocassional hurricane. Virginia is nice too the Marine base (Quantico) is there. I have friends who live in Woodbridge, VA
