Marin does have a lot of awesome trails (mountain biking comes from Marin). I used to go to Jack London State Park in Glen Ellen and Annadell (?) near Santa Rosa. They always had nice trails with a lot of variety.

only how tight is your budget? there are a form of factors interior the SF Bay area that are not overrun through gangs, homeless, etc, yet for the most area they're top-income factors. Almaden is tremendous. that is form of like in case you moved to the midwest or the agricultural mountain states, in case you bypass right into a low income area there, probability is you'd be next door to a meth-head. verify community crime data on the information superhighway.
