You were in the right, explaining that they needed to call. If there was nothing stolen, don't worry about getting the picture back. Learn to use the camera, it is why you bought the damn thing, for self protection, right? Don't give your key to your house out.
REMEMBER: If you can count five friends on your hand that you can trust, implicitly, then one of them is a liar, because you don't have five fingers, one of them is a thumb.

this clearly isnt a big deal. it isnt like theyre murderers coming into ur house and STEALING the mp3 player. theyre family that thought they left it there. why would u want to show the video to them? they obviously know they did it. this is a small problem that got acted on as if it were much bigger. just tell them to call u next time and leave it at that.

Obviously they didnt do anything bad so forgive them 4 now. Put the camera up again. Next time, dont erase it. Show the tape 2 them. Tell them 2 call.

you're correct, they ought to capture him contained in the act. And the police would take an hour to get there. All i am going to recommend is to write down your mayor or different community rep. I had difficulty the position the police not in any respect stuck the crime contained in the act. I emailed the mayor because it become risky to the community and he took care of it, trust it or no longer. Yours sounds very risky as well. Does he lease? if so, also contact the owner.

At radio shack, you can set up an alarm system that calls the police and your cell phone for about $200. Let him know you're planning to set that up. One of the things that is nice is the doorbell that sounds when the alarm is not armed, it still lets you know when someone has openned the door.
Then, don't worry about explaining to anyone about the security of your house. Your family lives in there.

You have every right to protect your self and property, also you should ask for the key back because they used it inappropriately, they may have the key but that was not given out for them to visit with out your permission, their thinking is wrong and you do not owe any one an explanation. You do what ever it takes for you to be comfortable

Don't feel bad about it, you did nothing wrong but they sure did. They should have called you instead of just letting themselves in. If they had done that in my home, they'd have gotten shot and killed (it's the way I am). They should consider themselves blessed but in your case, I'd change out the locks and not give them a key if I were you.

you shouldn't give them the key first place. I won't even give copy key to my In Laws.... even my own mother. no way.. not because I don't trust them just because they need to call before coming over and they come over with key without calling first.
you already told them to call next time i hope that works out.

You gave them a key to your house. They didn't come in and steal anything so what is the problem?
