every player in every sport now days is in it for the money. I think its "sports agents" fault, they are destroying the purity of sports. I can see getting a lot to play Football, because its so hard on your body.

The real answer is Free Agency. The reason the NBA in the 70s and 80s was so good was because the players stayed on the same team and teams had real rivalries with each other. Magic vs Bird. Jordan vs. Thomas. Those rivalries don't exist anymore because players keep moving back and forth and teams constantly change. There isn't anything that keeps players from playing harder other than their paycheck, and that's all due to Free Agency.

Taking a charge has turned into one of the best skills a guy can have. If you can jump in front of someone at the last second when they are in the air flying towards the basket its a good play now. Otherwise you can just fall over in the paint if someone touches you.... unless you get in Tim Duncan or another star's way.... then you get called for a foul. Basically I guess I think that the officiating is to blame for the NBA going downhill. I would like to watch Dwayne Wade, Steve Nash, and TMAC just as much as the older guys but there are a lot of BS calls that benefit the more well-known teams and players and I don't think the charging fould was put in place so that people could pretend to get run over. Just my opinion though, I usually watch college ball instead....Go Badgers!!

"WHY NOT" hit it right on the head.
Its pretty hard to get excited about scores like 79-71. Teams don't run like they used to. They all play the same boring half-court game, and try for a dunk so they can make Sportscenter.
These guys are making millions of dollars and can't make a free throw? Give me a break.
And then everytime you turn around, there's a fight. The NBA is on a downward spiral right now. Hopefully another Bird/Magic comes around to save it.

Lots of players now days play for just the highlight reels unfortunately. Someone said the outside shot is gone...i think too many people shoot them, i think its teh mid range that is gone. Defense isnt what it used to be either. We can blame the refs as well. If you are a star, you get fouls in your favor, if not, then you are always on the bad end of the stick. I dont think the NBA is totally unfun, just not the same. There are still great players out there. We just need to bring some fundamentals back (which wont happen lol)

1. The outside shot does not exist anymore
2. Free throw shooting is a joke
3. Passing is a thing of the past
4. The art of playing D is not there
5. Everyone wants to get on sportscenter with the big double pump reverse dunk.
Fundamentals are all gone. A lot of players today don't have the heart. How else does the so called dream teams of the NBA get their butts handed to them in international play......

Haven't you been watching the Phoenix Suns? The are defining team basketball and are scoring more points than anyone else in the league. They have reminded America that it is the good PASS that wins games, and not single players. Check out NBA.coms team stats and you'll see Phoenix at the top of nearly every list, then watch their next game. Their style is the future of the NBA.

I think that you're completely right about that. I think the original Dream Team would spank any other team the NBA could put together. NBA is extremely boring to watch now.

Three point shot. Before it, teams had to actually play defense and earn points the old fashion way, in the paint. This make the game more fun to watch than bombs hitting the rims.

You must've missed last night's Warriors-Nets game. Monta Ellis hits the game-winner with less than one second remaining.
