Well you can't really speed it up now. But after you have finished the huge pile iron things a soon as they are dry. I mean you only get one load at a time don't you. I don't bother ironing some things either, when I hang them in the wardrobe, such a jeans the creases seem to disappear anyway.

Yep my ironing pile is MASSIVE. Im trying to make is easier by tumble drying jeans, tshirts and anything that wont shrink and taking them out of the dryer as soon as they're done, then puttin them away, they dont need ironing but if you leave them in for a while after the dryer has finished the creases set in. I don't iron bedding and towels.

It sounds like you need to invest in a steam generator iron. They are fantastic!!! I've got one and now the ironing takes me less than half the time it did before, the reason for this is you only need to iron one side of each item and this is because the steam is so powerful it irons both sides at the same time. Hope this helps.

Lots of good ideas here.
As with any complex problem, it requires a multi-pronged approach. But the one idea I use that really helps things go faster, takes less elbow grease and is less frustrating overall:
USE A STEAMER.
I have a really good Conair Deluxe Fabric Steamer that I bought in 2003, for use in my sewing and craft projects, with a very large steamer head with brushes on it for smoothing; it also has a large water reservoir and has a long pole/stand so you can set the steamer head in it and move the object in front of it if need be or hang the item in front of it and leave it for a bit, if it is REALLY deeply wrinkled. I LOVE IT!
I can steam all my dry cleanables, hubby's suits, coats, my cotton t- shirts, my khakis, etc, fast and eay. It's near the dryer in the basement, so as soon as stuff comes out of the washer or dryer, it can either be hung to dry, or, if dry, steamed right away.
If you can't or won't get the steamer:
Buy clothes that need little or no ironing
Hang to dry those that can --and use a wrinkle free spray on damp clothes that helps flatten wrinkles out. It's usually in the laundry aisle near the spray cans of starch. The one I use is made by Downy.
The newer washers and dryers have gentle wash and wrinkle rid settings that do help. Most of my things really don't need much pressing anymore. Just touch ups at the cuffs and neck, and for that I use the steamer.
There is a new dry cleaning cabinet that is portable that you can hang things in and it automatically steams and refreshes them. You just set the controls before placing the items inside and voila! Wrinkle free, steam freshened clothing. It folds flat for storage. It's called various things: steam cabinet, dream steamer, steam closet/cleaner, etc and they vary widely in price from several hundred to thousands of dollars.
Some styles of the steam cabinet for home use are more permanent and are meant to be installed near the washer and dryer, have a rigid cabinet, are larger and can't be moved as easily. Of course, ethey are more expensive.
Asko makes one for Europe and I know several US makers have them out now.

Your not on your own I hate it I use the tumble dryer and hang it up straight away sometimes I put things on an ironing pile and when there is too much either my daughter, sons partner or my niece do it as they don't mind and I do other things for them cooking for them to take home

I just hang all my clothes up once they are dry. The iron only comes out if I really need to look smart. Stuff for around the hanging out around the house never gets ironed.

I don't iron. I bought this awsome collection of clothes that all match and fit into a small bag - no ironing needed - and great for travelling, work, or just going out.

A nice hot Iron, decide what things you really think need ironing, t-shirts, towels, underwear - no no no....
iron shirts on the front so the steam goes through to the back?
Other then that... Get your other half/ bored teenagers/mum/nan to do it!!!

Get one of those steam irons the ones with the huge pipe, they cost about 70-100 pounds
You only have to iron one side of most things its a hell of a lot quicker
