Why is Japan so far ahead with technology?

after world war 2, after we nuked Japan 2 times, we went in and told them how they were going to run their country. We told them they couldn't build an army or weapons, This alone frees up a lot of money and engineers to work on technology. Japan in 1945 is like Iraq today, in 25-40 years Iraq will be a great nation like Japan. Think of Japan as Americas little brother, they made some mistakes, but we were there to show them the way.

Assuming you are comparing them to the U.S., that is emphatically NOT true; quite the opposite. A fair generalization is that the U.S. stays far ahead of Japan in the most advanced and valuable technologies, while Japan often leads in the mass-manufacturing of less cutting edge technologies.

For example, Japan simply is no competition at all in such areas as Microprocessors, software, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, leading edge networking equipment, Internet services -- which are perhaps the most lucrative of "technology" areas, and the ones that define the future. The world's great companies in these areas are quite American -- Intel, AMD, Microsoft, Oracle, Cisco Systems, Pfizer, Eli Lilly, Genentech, Google, etc.

Where Japan excels is in quality manufacturing of consumer electronics, and refining and improving existing technologies ... and so Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, Mitsubishi Electric etc make stuff like DVD players, HDTVs, batteries, electronic components etc.

Now the interesting question is, why would you think Japan was ahead?

I think it's because they are more disciplined and traditional culturally AND in education--it is expected to be rigorous, children are expected to learn, to behave, etc, [without all our excuses] and there is societal pressure to excel. I've also heard another reason is because WWII left their factories devasted; they built new factories and developed technology because there WAS no alternative--and they had US money to do it with, but don't know how true this may be. After WWII the US took responsibility for their defense [no Japanese army was permitted]. With no military budget, financially they could re-prioritize their resources--and they are not fools.

the U. S. has the technologies, and we may be able to construct some thing. it is the price of complicated artwork, the fee to guard the ambience. various of stuff is from China too. Our very last television made interior the U. S. became Curtis Mathess (spelling). .
