I'm not a professional dancer but would like to learn simple ballroom dancing. How helpful will a DVD lesson be? I don't want to spend too much on an instructor.

Join a group class.
that's the best way to start.
dvd is for later on when you
want to fix details or if you just want to watch.
It's hard to imagine where you are on
the floor from watching TV.
and of course you need a partner.
and a group class will let you switch partners
and mingle too.

It is nearly impossible to learn from a DVD is you didn't have instructions in this style before.

You don't need to hire an instructor just yet. The best approach would be to find some group classes - they are reasonably cheap, they show you all the same basic steps as a DVD would show, with the difference that in the real life teachers adjust the pace of the class and add more explanations if tey see that a few students didn't get it, or they simply come over and correct you.

I have been dancing ballroom for the past few months at a ballroom academy. My friend gave me a dvd at first, but it's so difficult to really understand the dvd. I would suggest looking at the ballroom studios in your area, because all the ones in my area had specials for beginners. For example, two private lessons and a group class for $49 and another place had a free private lesson to check out their studio. Really look into the studios, because you don't necessarily have to commit to them if you can't afford them. The studio I go to has ballroom group classes for ten classes for $100 that you can take anytime. The DVD was hard to learn from. Some things were fine to get from a DVD, but your best best would be to go to the dance studios.

the fundamentals to maximum dances are oftentimes notably common. some extra suitable than others. as you extra in touch the strikes get tougher, yet once you do no longer choose that yet, you've gotten lots of relaxing with the fundamentals. lots of ballroom dance colleges, or maybe some universities, might have loose dance nights. they are an outstanding thank you to ensure in case you will delight in ballroom. in case you do, pass forward and spring for some classes. when you get some journey you will have the skill to purely pass dancing at a club and have a blast. (besides as impress those around you) good success! i'm particular you will like it.

it all depends on how you learn. if you are a visual learner than a dvd will help but if you are a physical learner than it will not.
