It's offensive to people who suffered based on the beliefs that that flag stood for and to people who can sympathize with other human beings on the matter.

It would be a nice gesture to NOT display it, but manners and respect are not written into the law, so people do as they please...

Many people who fly that flag are doing it in memory of relatives who fought in that war. Sure the South lost but that does not erase the pain that some feel over the loss of loved ones. For the most part it has nothing to do with race; after all, the Emancipation Proclamation was not until 1863 & thousands had already died. I'm a Southener, I don't fly that flag. There were many brave men on both sides that died in that war. Who are we to claim any pride for something we had no part in neither causing nor fighting. The South lost. The Stars & Stripes is the flag for all; showing that we are a united nation.

The flag like something stands for what you're making it stand for. i will take any flag interior the Union and make it a time-commemorated image for hate and injustice. It does not offend me, of direction i'm Southern and that i admire historical past. I purely remember that slavery did no longer start up with the Confederates and that it became allowed by ability of the adult males who've statues in Washington right this moment. The Civil conflict did no longer help the slaves lots as set them loose without rights in a rustic that purely looked as though it could forget they existed. Hate is a American concern and constantly has been, the Confederacy became born out of so lots greater advantageous than slavery yet purely like the Union, had a similar morals in direction of slavery. It became a political pass by ability of Lincoln halfway interior the direction of the conflict that replaced issues. I see the flag because it became. it is an element of historical past which will continuously be debated. i elect to no longer fly to greater time-commemorated accomplice flag, and show the celebs and Bars. i believe this is a compromise that i'm getting to have a small area of historical past whilst no longer making human beings uncomfortable. i believe that it is anyones top to fly any flag they want. I mean in spite of each and every thing, every person has a flag at present.

I am far more offended by a gay pride flag. But I will not say anything as I know it is the right of a gay person to fly it. Just as a chargers fan can fly a chargers flag or a southerner can fly his confederate flag. They are free to display it or be offended. Nowhere in the constitution does it say you cant be offended. So even though I dont like seeing gay pride flags, I have to deal with it because thats the freedom we have here in this country and thats the freedom that we in the military fight for.

1st Amendment - You absolutely have a right to display the flag, at least as an individual. Sure it brings up thoughts of a smear on America's name, but it is also represents the use of one of the rights that makes us great. Maybe it is sometimes celebration of one group of veterans from the Civil War, but to most people it just represents racism. I dare say that it probably normally represents racism to the the people who display it or at least defiance of the government who forced integration down their throats.

Just like those cartoons of Mohamed over in Europe illustrated though - free speech should also come with responsibility. You can say whatever you want, but a responsible person honors that right by thinking beforehand.

I am an extreme conservative, but I believe slavery was definitly wrong, although somehow everybody assumes republicans are pro-slavery. Ok, so I think it should be allowed, but it is just a way of seperating our great country. We are 1 country, and bad things could happen if we forget what flag we SHOULD be waving. People do have the right to display it as long as they aren't racist. People veiwing it have no right to take it down either, because they are messing with people's values.

The "Southern Cross" flag was never the official flag of the CSA, in reality, it's a combination of the Battle Flag and the Naval Jack. It looks like the Naval Jack, but the coloring is more like the Battle Flag. The Battle Flag was used used in the upper left hand corner of the 2nd and 3rd Confederate national flags, but the "Southern Cross" was never a national flag itself.

In my opinion, the "Southern Cross" is not a symbol of slavery and oppression, but more a symbol of southern solidarity.

I once knew a guy who had the Southern Cross tattooed on his back. When I asked him if he was ever judged for it, he told me he got it on his 18th birthday with his best friend, a black man (who got one too).

So, while some idiots use it as a symbol of white oppression, I think the general attitude in the south is one of southern pride.

It is only offensive to those with a desire to eradicate the heritage and history of the south.

The Confederate flag as well as the American flag was abused by organizations such as the KKK. However, people don't complain about the current flag representing the US of A.

I personally do not condone it but I guess it is not offensive if you belong to the south, but I do find it a little offensive if it is used side by side of the U.S. flag though and on a side note the Confederacy is dead, along with 650 thousand americans.

Now if you streaked naked in public, chanting "The South Will Rise Again" with a confederate flag draped around you it might be hilarious.

I find it offensive, but people still have the right to display it. One of the beautiful things about America is that you can be offensive.
