hey, girl. Yeah, don't blame your ham-ham too much. That is normal hamster activity. Think of your hamster as a blind, groggy, confused, non-morning person that has just been woken up suddenly. Chances are he was confused and bit you not out of aggression, (unless he was startled and didn't realize it was you) but out of confusion. Hamsters do not see well so they rely heavily on their sense of smell. If you had anything on your hand that smelled remotely "yummy", (ie; lotion, maybe you touched food a bit ago and hadn't washed your hands since) he may have bit thinking you were giving him a tastey morsel. Since you said he sniffed your hand first and then bit you, that's what I think happened. They bite your finger thinking it's a treat that you are giving them. So what can you do about it? If your hand is in the cage and your hamster is sniffing about your bare hand I tell the ham-ham, "No . . . I don't have". After a bit, (you'll be surprised how fast they learn) they will understand this phrase means that you don't have a treat for them and that they shouldn't bite. Also, be sure to wash your hands well before putting your hand in the cage. This keeps germs away from your cute hammy and also helps eliminate other smells that may be on your hands that will confuse the hamster who may still be a bit on the sleepy side. =) Good luck. I hope this works. I've had tons of hamsters and it works wonders for me. My hamsters are very well behaved. =)

ok your hamster does no longer might desire to be chewing on the bars. i could get a 10 gallon with a lid from wal-mart and set him up in it. do no longer stick your hands via the bars ever, I had the main tame hamster ever who constantly bit me as quickly as I did that. the reason he bit you the 1st time became you had foodstuff on your hands. He smelled it, went oh that smells solid and bit. don't be frightened of him. this is not vicious purely %. him up right and supply him some interest. constantly wash your hands in case you have been eating formerly time. i've got had 3 hamsters and that i detect that this might properly be a rather solid customary rule.

He is not going to "give" you anything. If you had the slightest smell of food, another animal or something strange, yes, the will bite. It is normal. Waking them up also startles them, especially during the daytime hours.

yes, a lot of times hamsters bite things...also theyre kinda like dogs and need chew toys, so if you buy him a hamster chew thing from your local pet store maybe he won't bite you as much. hamsters need to chew on things for thier health, or else thier teeth can get too long and they can get infections in thier mouths.
