Most indoor lighting fixtures take 60 or 75 watt bulbs. 100 watts is not usually recommended and is considered a fire hazard in most fixtures (100 watt bulbs get hotter than lower wattages). If there are any lightbulbs already in place, just look at what kind they are and buy the same type again. It gives the information on the top of each bulb.
However, if you want to save money on electric bills, I would recommend using compact fluorescent light bulbs. They resemble a small tube twisted into the shape of a lightbulb. These give off as much light as a normal light bulb but take up less than half the wattage.
Here´s a page about them, if you´re interested,

That depend on your lighting fixtures. Most of them have a label under the glass that tell you what watt (40w, 60w, 100w, etc.) bulb to use.
If your light bulb is entirely surrounded by glass (like a globe) use a lower watt like 40 or, at the highest 60w to prevent overheating. If it is open globe, you can use 75 or 100w for a brighter light.
They aren't as pretty...but they make florescent bulbs that screw in now. These are brighter, don't get very hot, AND use less energy.
I hope this helped!

Be careful buying bulbs for table lamps, etc. They are usually rated 60 watt. Just look at what is in the lamps now and replace accordingly. Permanent light fixtures are pretty much your choice. Buy a box of 60 watt, 75 watt, and 100 watt bulbs and experiment until you find the intensity you want in each room.
Good luck.
