Its different for everyone. This last go round (delivered 12/19) I lost my mucus plug and was dialated to a one for about 2 1/2 weeks. My water broke early in the morning, and when I got to the hospital, I was only a 2, but they kept me because the water had broke. With my first son, they didn't keep me until I was a 7 (which I personaly feel was too long) and with my second, labor went so fast, we didn't make it to the hospital. But, the good news here is that the end is near!!

Even if you are 1 cm dilated, there is no way to tell when you'll be going into active labor. Some women are 1-2 cm dilated for months (not abnormal). But since you're 37 weeks, I would get the bags ready. Babies are considered full term by 38 weeks, so conceivably, you can go into labor any day soon.
As far as when you get admitted to the hospital? It'll depend on how close together your contractions are. Time your contractions and if they become regular and you're in pain, it's a good bet that you will not be coming home after you go see your doctor.
Good luck! I wish you a short labor and speedy delivery!

you have to be in active labor or 3cm before they will admit you. I'm not too sure about the milky stuff? Only your doctor knows for sure just relax and realize that you only have a few more weeks and enjoy this time while you are pregnant. I know how hard it is because you want the baby out now! but after baby is born you wonder if you are ever going to sleep through the night again. It could be 1 day to 2 weeks before you dialate anymore. Sex will help with the dilation process because of the sperm. Walking helps to get the baby deeper into the pelvis due to gravity and rest will help you mentally perpare for the birth. Good luck and hope everything works out just the way you want!

Calm down! That's the first thing you should. Stress is bad for you and your baby. I gave birth at 36 weeks and 39 weeks. The second time I had a similar situation to yours. Try resting more and relax. Put your feet up. Anything after 38 weeks is considered to term. I consider myself lucky to never having gone the full forty weeks of misery. So take a deep breath and take it one day at a time. You will be fine. Call your doctor if you feel the need and believe you will know if you go into labor or if your water breaks. By the way amniotic fluid is usually clear or a little pinkish. Good luck and remember a relaxed mom is a good one at this time.

You could be dilated at that stage for a while yet. I would either wait until your doctor says so, or when you start having contractions. Believe me, you'll know it if you dilate more that 4!! At 10 you're having the baby. Your baby should be fine. I had my last one at 36 weeks and he was in hospital for 15 days afterwards in stepdown nursery. He's a very healthy and energetic 3 yr.old now! Follow doctor's orders. Good luck and enjoy your new baby!!!

I thought I had lost my mucous plug, only to really lose it the next day. (It was about a 1/4 cup of mucous! Gross, I know.) I lost it with two of my four pregnancies. The first time I lost it, I had my son that night, the other pregnancy I had the baby 1 week later. Good luck!!

generally you need to be having significant contractions that remain steady about 5 -10 minutes apart and about 3 cm dilated. Just because you lost you plug it can still be a few days away. sigh yep happened here.
anyhow it is a good sign though that you are well on your way to having that baby soon.
good luck.

I was dialated 3 cm for two months. And I think that they admit you when your contractions are three or less minutes apart. I have our children and my contractions always started out at 1 minute apart. Good Luck to you and the bieth of your child:)

If this is your first baby, they will probably tell you to stay home until you are in active labour (usually around 6 cm). If you are in early labour and you feel like you need pain management... go to the hospital.
