"Hotel California" was a song by the Eagles in the mid 70's, the album came out in '76.
The hotel was a metaphor for the over-the-top, decadent, materialistic success the Eagles had achieved by 1976 after their success in the early 70's. Apparently it got too intense for them.

It is an actual hotel in Southern Baja California - in a town called Todos Santos. Don Henley of the Eagles was staying there and was inspired to write the song.
