As a former college student myself, ...what you do is put the heading in the somewhat upper-center of the blank page, and on the bottom right corner you put your name, date, class/instructor's name...

let me assure you in building up your self- esteem as a first year college student: Communicate openly with your Professor about expectations of paper setups, do not hesitate to ask questions, even ask 2nd year college students...Be sure to READ your syllabus, this will prepare you for the rest of your college semesters/years! Keep in mind English styles for writing papers tend to change over the years.

Usually you will find expectations of such a paper in your syllabus.
Please keep in mind ALWAYS be willing to ask your Professor for proper usages. Each Professor has their own preferences...this counts towards your grade as a whole, too. Cheers...you'll do great!

Place your heading in the upper left-hand corner of the page. Use a one-inch margins for typed papers. This follows Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting. MLA formatting is the accepted standard for college papers.
2

Place your first and last names on the first line. Double space each line of the heading. All lines of the heading are left justified at the left margin.
3

Place your professor's name on the next line. Use his first and last name preceded by Professor. For example, "Professor John Doe" goes on this line.
4

Place the name of your course on the next line. For example, you could use "English 101."
5

Place the date on the final line. To follow MLA formatting, the date should appear as the day in numeral format, the month in written format and the year. For example, "5 January 2011" is appropriate.
6

Double space after the last line of your heading, and center the title of your paper on the next line. Use Title Case style to type the title. For example, "A History of Life During the Tudor Period."
7

Double space after the heading and begin your paper using a 1-inch indent to begin the first paragraph.
