I use Well-Cared For by Bare Escentuals. It's a shampoo for brushes. It's works super well! I just put some in a cup w/water and let my brushes soak for a while. Then I rinse it out and all the makeup gunk comes out! Let them dry flat and they are as good as new!

Natural hair brushes (sable, pony, squirrel, etc.) are just like the hair on your head. There are professional brush cleaners, like Cinema Secrets and Parian Spirit, which you should use to clean and sanitize your brushes. But every month or so, you should use a good shampoo and conditioner. Make sure that when you dry your brushes, you don't stand them straight up. The water will run down and rust the metal and cause hair to fall out. If you have synthetic brushes (like taklon), which are used for creamy products, use 99% alcohol. Make sure that you reshape every brush while still wet, so that they retain their proper shape when they're dry. A good brush will last your forever as long as you take proper care of it. Use baby shampoo to clean them & then use your hair conditioner to condition them. Do this once every week or two to keep them in good shape. On synthetic brushes (like lip brushes or concealer brushes) use alcohol to get rid of all the product.

Invest in brush cleaner. MAC and Estee Lauder both make a great one. Clean your brushes at least once every two weeks. I do mine every weekend. I wear different colors and don't want to mix. Plus it's hygienic and helps them stay in good shape.

I use a liquid anti-microbial soap and warm water to wash them, then blot them on a clean dry towel, then let them air dry. I shake them out before I use them again.

I use baby shampoo or dawn. This really keeps it clean and smooth.
