No, you can not force them to sign them, if you did, they would not be valid anyhow. Depending on the state you live in, it may vary, but I will use the State of Tennessee as an example. If you go and file for a divorce and know your spouse will not sign or create a big fuss over it and try to drag it out, you have them served. The day they are served, the clock begins. They have I believe 60 days to respond. I could be off on the 60 days, but it is a very specific time period. After that, they are in default and the judge can now rule on the divorce. The 60 days is designed for the other spouse to seek legal advice and come back with any suggested changes to the papers. By doing nothing for the whole time period, they leave all the control in the hands of the person that is filing for divorce and not a smart move. You need to check in your state to see exactly how it all works, but the bottom line is that they can not be forced to sign.

I don't believe so. The laws vary from state to state. The information is easy to find on the web. Type in, "colorado state divorce laws", for example. Some states are fault or no-fault, and the period of time you have to wait until it is finalized varies. If your spouse will not sign, you have to wait them out. In Pennsylvania you must be living separate and apart for at least two years before a divorce is granted if the other person refuses to sign.

You can't force anyone to sign anything that they don't want to sign. The same goes for you, you don't have to sign anything that you don't want to sign.
