The question should be of what type of slaves b/c the very first slave sto come to the united states where actually natives of this land. Yes, Native Americans! As for black slaves, it has to be over 800 years ago.

July 4th 1776.
Before that there were slaves here but it wasn't the United States. I would guess that when the first humans crossed the land bridge from Asia into North America they had some slaves with them.

Slaves came to North America before the United States existed.
20 Blacks were brought to Jamestown in 1619 as indentured servants. Jamestown was the first British settlement -- so there were slaves in what is now the US as long as there have been white men.

Technically, I believe that the first imported slaves were with the Spanish.
