The song is called "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails.
Johnny Cash did a cover of it on his CD: American IV: The Man Comes Around [LP Bonus Tracks]

The original version of Hurt was by Nine Inch Nails and has been covered by several people including Johnny Cash.
I believe Tori Amos did the version you're looking for if it's the one from the commercial then it's probably just a singer an advertiser found somewhere.

If it's from a commercial, it's probably miscellaneous woman singing the same song that Johnny Cash sang. FYI, it was originally done by Nine Inch Nails.

Well first off, It's originally a Nine Inch Nails song (ack, dislike them, but I have to give credit where credit is due). It's about being down, depression, if you will, and the pain it causes. The "transformation" one feels when they know that what they're feeling isn't normal, that It's bad, but feeling helpless to change, it almost seems as if it referances self-injury (I hurt myself today / To see if I still feel / I focus on the pain / The only thing that's real / The needle tears a hole / The old familiar sting). It says that when you're in depression, you feel as if nothing can change, yet you want to change everything. Not much of a hidden message - Just pain.
