He can feel vibrations in the water, but I wouldn't call it "hearing". If you talk to him before feeding he'll learn to come to your voice. He's not fond of loud noises or having his glass tapped. He has good eye sight so just putting your finger on the glass will attract his attention.

Lol. :P Yes, fish can "hear" in a sense. They can feel vibrations- this is why you see people constantly posting up signs to not tap on the sides of fishtanks, because tapping sounds like explosions to the fish.

When you talk, most likely your betta is responding to you visually- he sees you and comes up to greet you.

He can't hear you necessarily in the way you might think, but your voice will send sounds waves through the water. Fish are very sensitive to vibrations (which is why you shouldn't tap on the glass). So if you're talking loud enough, he can "hear" you through the vibrations in the water, but he's not going to understand what you say.

Some of our fish will come to the front of the tank when we talk to them, mostly because they want to be fed. This may be because they see us though, it's hard to say.

Yes he can hear you. Bettas are pretty stupid fish, compared to other fish. But I am sure they can still hear.

Yes, water amplifies sound, they hear better than we do, some think they can pick out voices, but they can't understand our words
