HOW WOULD YOU EXPLAIN THAT?

Superstition against the number 13 as bad luck. As there are enough people that are superstitious it is bad economically to have a 13th floor. Hotels especially don`t have one. People won`t occupy a rm 13 or sleep on a 13th floor even if it has the last room available.
Where did this start? In the medieval minds of Europe. The proximate cause of this apparently was the observation that Judas, the betrayer of Jesus, made 13 at the table. Other great medieval minds, pointed out that "the Jews murmured 13 times against God in the exodus from Egypt, that the thirteenth psalm concerns wickedness and corruption, that the circumcision of Israel occurred in the thirteenth year," and so on. 13 became a bad number and not to be associated with. What's worse, 13 is one past 12, the dozen, almost universally regarded as a perfect number, signifying harmony and all good things. Thirteen, by contrast, is a number of transgression, taking matters one step too far, one to many, (Judas) turning harmony into discord. Thirteen is a prime number; primes have always attracted attention. In this case not good attention.

Asia has the same situation with the number 4. 44 and 444 meaning illness and death. There will sometimes not be a 4th floor and never be a rm 44 or 444. You will not find 444, that number is nonexistent in Asia whether a house number, street, or license plate.

Its just because the number 13 is considered "bad luck" for some reason. But like the comedian Mitch Hedburg pointed out, if someone on the 14th floor jumps out a window they will die a whole floor sooner.

Some say its a "BAD LUCK" number. I guess. They don't want anything bad happen to them.
