Argle - I give a lot to my church but we also support other community projects and charities. I have been teaching Sunday School since 1991 and I do a lot of volunteer work.

John - God tells us to give with a glad heart and do so without fanfare - so I do. Suffice it to say I think I do my share, but we can always do more when needed.

mrlebowski - I hate to use the term "rich" but that's the term liberals use so I will. WHY tax the so called rich at a higher % than other people. They are already giving more at the same % but then the RATE is increased. I am for a FLAT tax.

Liberals are self loathing creatures.

That explains a lot of what they do that makes no sense.

Liberals are the new fascist Nazi's.

They can't tolerate any opinion different than their's.

Look what they do to college speakers. They throw urine, pies, pull fire alarms, start fights, etc etc, to keep conservative's from speaking.

They want to pass laws to eliminate talk radio.

Liberals are intolerant, bigoted fascists, incapable of allowing free speech.

Islamicfascists have pledged to murder you and me.

Liberals want to help them.

Conservatives want to fight them.

Liberalism is ok when it is practiced.

But todays America's liberals, are not real liberals.

They are against change of all types and devoid of new idea's or solutions to problems.

Conservatives offered many new programs and initiatives the last 6 years, and liberals always fought against them, with never an original idea or solution to offer in return.

Liberals love it whan a woman murders a child that is unborn but hate it when criminals who rape, murder and commit attrocities get the death penality.

In reality the liberals of today are Stalinists and Marxists. Their belief that government is the solution to all problems and no wealth should be privately owned is what drives todays liberals.

They are also anti-American. They believe America is the worlds problem and the world would be better off without America in it.

Liberals are all for forsaking the poor weak and downtrodden if America's military is involved in keeping them alive, but insist on keeping America's poor weak and downtrodden in their miserable existance because of 'political correctness', (New Orleans and any urban city).

Who wants to tax the rich or successful .Scratching my head here trying to figure out how you came up with the idea that people want something from the rich except to be paid what they are worth .As you employee more people it is vital to adjust payments in accordance with the amount of work produced by your labor force . Taking a smaller and smaller percentage as the number of workers goes up .
Its like this . If I earn 1000 dollars a week and show two other people how to do the same thing I deserve something for this . A profit if you will now I can pay them 750 a week which is more then the minimum wage by far .And make 500 more dollars each week myself . Now I add 5 more workers and during the same week I make 2750 will my worker are still making just 750 . My plan my rules . Alone I was able to earn 1000 but with help I now enjoy 2750 each week . I do not work more hours or produce more goods I just take a little from each worker . In a year I decide to go big and hire 20 more people 10 each in neighboring towns .My income again doubles . Now I am not saying that 750 a week is not fair but the guys who have been with me over that year want more money So I hate to lose income so the new guys start at 650 and I give the guys who been working for a year a raise of 10 % Thats 75 dollars and a sizable pay increase . I no longer need to train people myself but decide tom and bill the first two guys I hired should begin to manage the company and the workers more Its become a little more hectic then I imagined . Over the course of a few more years I have made substantial investments from the profit from my workers labors and grow board with my company .
I over to sell it to Tom and Bill Now this is a great oppertunity for them and it is worth something to me also . I will be giving up that steady income and figure over the next ten years I would make a couple of million dollars So I sell out to tom and bill . I take that money and live happily ever after . The American dream right . Well after 5 years went by the supplier who I made a deal with sold out the zoning laws changed and my former company had chemical spills to clean up Tom and bill tried to save the company by asking workers to take a pay cut and that helped but only for a while .Fianally they go under owing the owner of the supplier several hundred thousand dollars . So it looks like me and my buddy the supplier got out just in time . Trouble is Did I really earn this right or did I take advantage of 20 people and leave them with nothing .
Yes a fair profit is wonderful but when we all pay for the roads the power the cars the bills all so we can show up at work we should be paid accordingly . Yet as millionaires became billionaires and unions got pay increases something happened . The workers got left out the unions busted by big government and well all lost a little ground to the rich .
I think I can determine what is fair and what is not . Can you . Excessive greed is crippling Americans as some people are buying a third home while millions do not have even one . Trickle down is a joke it trickles up .

YOU. always seem to put down Liberals. you are a funny lady. you seem to waste your time in making some real dumb questions . although i do not agree with most liberal agendas . i do not go around self promoting myself with some real stupid allegations.

Maybe this year everyone that voted for Pres. Bush should return their tax return.

i think that would be just.

I mean if you truly believe that his political agenda has benefit our country then we should give our tax return back........

Was the world created in 7 days. evolution the jury is still out on that... lol

you are funny women i can see why you so popular at your Sunday school.
stick with religion and that leap of faith
( and mean that well)

but keep the politics with people that really care and can see all sides of an issue and then come up with the best answers hopefully

Please stop attacking liberals that is not not the downfall of American civilization

Ya know, I can see the point of saying - I don't want to give my money that I work really hard for to people that have lots of babies, and sit in front of the TV watching Soap Operas and Oprah. However, that being said, for those people that make hundreds of thousands of dollars a year and more should pay more in taxes. People like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton that squander their money on lavish parties and clothes should be taxed more so that their money is put to good use in SOME way. Helping to offset the cost of health care for the millions of people that can't afford it, for instance.

Yes.
The "successful" do not become so in a vacuum. They take full advantage of public services. The more successful you become, the more you are using these publicly funded institutions. So yes, the rich should be taxed to help the suffering of those who are not as fortunate, and yes, the rich should be generous to give of their time and energy and money to help their fellow countrymen.

This isn't the woods. We shouldn't be fighting each other for resources, we should all be working together for the greater benefit of all Americans.

I'd rather have a heart and no brain...

than a brain and no heart. (That's you, RLP)

*UPDATE* That was mean, and I regret it already. I feel like leaving it up, so nobody who saw it thinks I took it down because I won't back what I say, but I do get emotional and make mistakes.

I'm actually an advocate of trickle-down economics, it just seems like this question and some of its answers are very callous.

So, my sincere apologies.

Sure. That's why civilized countries have a tax system, to help the less well off.
Tax provides a safety net. You might need one some day.
You never know what's around the corner.

You dont believe succesful people should be taxed? Why should I be taxed but not succesful people? Maybe if our government stopped spending so much money on nonsense we could lower everybodys taxes.

And john doe she is way to busy bragging about how her life is so great to actually do something to help the less fortunate. You know like the good christian she is.

P.S. I have no problem with a flat tax ultimately. We need to make it so our government stops wasting our money

RLP, I probably help the poor more than you do.

Just a guess, but I'd put $ on it.

I contribute well to local shelters and food pantries. I volunteer time to tutor students in this community, which does not have a particularly high per capita earning level.

Before composing your next slur posting, perhaps you should qualify you own level of charity, eh?

I'm willing to post my charity donations. Of course, there's no reason for you to BELIEVE them, but it's a matter of honor. My word is good, and always has been. I don't have to make things up.

WHAT'S "GIVING WITH A GLAD HEART" GOT TO DO WITH THE SLUR IMPLIED IN YOUR QUESTION, DEAR??

What refund? Uncle Sam got in my pants for nearly $1500 last year. That's over and above what was taken out of my check, which was a considerable amount, believe you me. Last year I paid more in taxes than I made in my first year as a teacher! If the poor can't live on that **** 'em!
