You never hear much about them (at leas tthat is my perception), but in checking some of the reliability ratings (on JD Power) for some of the Buick models, they get very strong marks.

Anyone here ever own a Buick or have some knowledge about them? Are they good dependable cars?

Buicks are great, moreover they are really starting to get some good looking models like the new Lucerne and the Enclave SUV shceduled for next fall. Their quality is higher than Toyotas. Some Buicks share parts with Cadillacs (the Lucerne does) yet are priced much less. Go for it.

In a past life, I sold Buicks along with all other GM lines (except Cadillac). I believe Buicks are one of the best makes out there. I sold my father a new 1994 LeSabre. After he drove it several years, I bought it from him and it was my work car for 4 years. My sister now drives it. It has 150,000+ miles and is still going strong.

My roomate... owns a 98 Buick PArk Avenue ultra. It has over 340,000 kms on the odometer, engine is still strong. only engine problem was a supercharger belt- no biggie. the supsension is in need of an overhaul as you would get with any vehicle with this mileage. The fuel gauge doesnt work anymore but the fuel range computer still works. also had an ignition mudule problem which required part replacement($500) at a dealership. He has owned th ecar for 5 years and put over 200K on the engine... I'd say thats pretty good. One example anyway. another car or model could bring different results....

Essentially, they are no different than pontiac, chevy with some caddy stuff added on top of that but being a semi-luxury brand, quality wise buick is somewhere between a chevy and a caddy, and - no matter for jd says - is nothing to write home about.

Buicks are not only good cars for the money, but they retain a good trade-in value, more than most cars do!! Just ask a banker!!
