They use such terms to distinguish different, identifiable mindsets that get people to gather into groups.

Most conservative speakers like Hannity, O'Reilly and Limbaugh, do not seem to grasp the difference between a Liberal and Leftist. Leftists have tricked them. I would like to appear on their shows to straighten them out!

Leftists/Progressives/Socialists/Communists are NOT Liberals!

the labels get people emotional. the emotionalism draws listeners.

these people are basically entertainers. their job is to get ratings and support the price of advertising. Limbaugh said it openly.

any label is a generalization that "relieves" people of the responsibility of thinking out the details.

people... and social problems... are multifaceted and can be "modeled" in different ways in order to understand them.

but the emotionalism and "instant gratification" hit that the media likes to deliver, reduces everything to sound bites and emotional appeals.

It means much more to conservatives like Limpbaugh. Why?
Because they want to divide everyone into a ' with us or against us' situation where they can identify and attack their detractors. Too many Americans fall for this.
Conservatives are responsible for the bloated two-party system we have today. There used to be several viable political parties.

I believe because it makes it easier to pigeon whole people to make it easier to make fun of the person or persons with idea different from your own. For Rush Limbaugh at least it seems to financially serve him well.

Good Luck!!!
